There are lots of resources on whip cracking...well lots more than on other western arts, like rope spinning or gun spinning.

My introduction to the technical side of whip cracking was from the videos, "Whipcracking Vol. 1 and Vol. 2". This series was put out by www.westernstageprops.com.

Then I stumbled onto some ebay auctions from someone selling a bunch of whipcracking VHS's. Some of them were good (like John Brady's tape) and some were crap. But I got them all.

When I learn a new skill I really immerse myself into it and try to learn all I can about it, history, current practitioners, etc.

One of the best resourses is The Bullwhip Book by Andrew Conway. This book is well laid out, illustrated and best of all you can take it out into the yard and have it next to you while you are cracking your whip!

I also spent about an hour with Paul Stenhouse at his house watching him crack his bullwhip and stockwhip. Paul also puts out an excellent DVD on basic cracks. I learned to do volley's from his DVD. Paul goes really slow in teaching and explains everything very clearly. Pauls website is/used to be www.stenhousewhips.com but right now the site is down and I don't know if it's coming back up anytime in the future.
