So I think this bullwhip (#6) is going to be my best one so far. I've dropped two strands, so it's gone from an 8 plait to a 6 plait. This happened about 18 inches from the handle. So the bulk of this layer on the bullwhip will be a 6 plait.
Here's what I have learned from this layer and will carry this knowledge over to the next layer:
- have the strands taper VERY GRADUALLY!
- When I get to a 6 plait layer to remember that the checkerboard pattern takes for ever to do...but looks a million times nicer!
- Pull tight before every braid!
- Use tons of pecards
This whip still has much more work to go into it before it's finished. This layer is taking forever, and there's one more layer (and it's going to be a harder layer!) to go. I think the final layer will be a 12 plait layer..but we'll see.
