I'm starting Bullwhip #7 right now, and I'm glad I got David Morgan's Fine Leather Braiding book. That book gave me a tip on making the cores of the whip...wrapping a piece of leather around the core and pulling it tight, then sliding the wrapped leather down the core to round it.

So here's what I've got so far for this whip:

Core: The core is two pieces of cow leather (and inner and outer) measuring 15 mm wide by 4 feet 7 inches. These pieces were actually a smidge bigger than 5 feet when I started.

Handle: The handle is a 3/8 inch by 8 inch piece of galvanized steel pipe.

I'm going to cut out 4 strands that will measure 5mm by 8 feet long. for the first layer to go over the core. I'm using the estimate of cutting each strand about 1 1/2 times longer than it needs to be.
