I've been confused between Leather Dressing and Plaiting Soap. I thought they were basicially the same thing. but I guess they aren't. The main difference (that I can tell) is the Dressing is a plaiting soap, but with some sort of water repellent (wax) mixed into it.

I found a recipe for making Plaiting Soap on bullwhip-info.com:

What you need:
4 oz of ivory soap
16 oz of crisco
12 oz of water.

Put the water in a pot. Grate up the soap and add it to the water heat on medium and watch it because it has a tendency to boil over. Let the soap dissolve for a while. when it is dissolved add the crisco and mix everything with an electric mixer until it is nice and smooth. take it off the heat and pout it into a container. Let it cool and VIOLA you are good to go.

I just whipped up a batch of this and will use it on my next whip.
